Occupational therapy services can be provided starting at birth through a tele-practice model. The sessions will be set up to create a predictable routine and follow a similar process each time. They will start with initiation and following up on any changes, engaging a person in a warm up routine, engaging in therapeutic activities and then ending the session with activities for carryover and answering questions. Each session will incorporate the following areas:
Empathy and Understanding: When working with individuals, the therapists will continue to use empathy and understanding. The occupational therapist will take the time to listen actively and acknowledge feelings and frustrations.
Clear Communication: Occupational therapists are trained to use simple and jargon-free communication. The client should be able to understand their goals, progress and any instructions or exercises that are provided by the therapist.
Personalized Care: Tailoring therapy to the individual needs and goals of the client is standard for All Care Therapies. Occupational Therapists value the unique personalities and interests of the individual and they will tailor exercises, activities, and treatment plans to enhance motivation and health and well-being. Clients should feel like active participants in their care.
Respect and Dignity: Occupational therapists respect all individuals’ cultural backgrounds, preferences and autonomy in decision making.
Support and Encouragement: Occupational therapists will offer support, positive reinforcement and encouragement to help clients stay motivated and engaged in therapy. Occupational therapists are trained to acknowledge and celebrate small steps towards change and to help clients recognize progress in themselves.
Holistic Approach: Occupational therapists are trained to address the client’s physical, emotional, sensory, motor, cognitive and social needs to create a more holistic and effective therapy experience.
Feedback and Evaluation: Occupational therapists will provide feedback to their clients and they seek out feedback from their clients and the caregivers in the home. The feedback they receive about their clients therapy experience and progress can help therapists to adjust their approach to better meet the client’s needs. Evaluating progress together can help set realistic goals and expectations.
By focusing on these areas, the occupational therapists can create meaningful and positive relationships and experiences for their clients, ultimately leading to better outcomes and client satisfaction.
