Sobre Mí

Hi, I am Karen Martinez, an occupational therapist with extensive experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults. My expertise covers a variety of areas such as sensory integration, food exploration involving sensory techniques, primitive reflex integration, autism spectrum disorder, and emotional and behavioral health. I have worked across multiple settings, including telehealth, home health, early intervention, school programs, community mental health, and outpatient pediatric clinics. My experience includes working with children with cerebral palsy, prematurity or developmental delays, rare genetic conditions, ADHD, dyslexia, ODD, visual-motor impairments, and vestibular processing issues. I offer services in both English and Spanish and hold licensure in New York and California. My credentials include micro-credentials from NBCOT and AOTA in autism spectrum disorders, as well as advanced training in sensory integration and primitive reflex integration. I earned Bachelor of Science degrees in exercise science from SUNY Cortland and Occupational Science from the University at Buffalo, a Master's in Occupational Therapy from the University at Buffalo, and a post-professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from Columbia University. My doctoral research focused on the neuroscience of cognition, specifically executive functioning skills, grant writing, and program development for adolescents and young adults on the autism spectrum. Since completing my education, I have mentored students, including capstone and fieldwork students, as well as recent graduates, to help them become independent, confident practitioners. I am committed to occupational justice, believing that everyone should have access to care and opportunities to participate in meaningful occupations, leading full, meaningful lives by breaking down barriers that lead to occupational marginalization and deprivation.

Por Qué los Clientes Disfrutan Trabajar Conmigo

I believe the foundation of good therapy is a strong relationship. I take time to truly listen — asking clients and caregivers, "How can I help?" and "What are your goals?" from day one. I explain strategies in plain language so caregivers feel confident supporting progress at home. I celebrate every win, no matter how small, and give even my youngest clients real choices in their sessions to build self-advocacy and independence. Therapy with me is hands-on, interactive, and centered on what matters most to you.
